Sequitur is a course in the foundations of Catholicism designed to equip the faithful to educate and pass on the love of Christ and his Church. The course surveys salvation history in the Old and New Testament, core doctrines, sacramental theology, prayer and spiritual growth. The last part of the course delves into practical teaching techniques to build confidence in teaching and communicating the faith effectively. Sequitur, meaning ‘it follows,’ is designed for those seeking to expand their foundational knowledge of Catholicism, as they serve parishes in teaching the richness and beauty of the faith.
The 34-week course will meet on Wednesday nights from 6:00pm – 8:30pm beginning September 18, 2024 and ending on June 18, 2025. Classes will be held in person in the Cathedral Residence and will be presented by clergy and professionals with education and experience in handing on the Catholic faith. Classes are broken into two parts: an initial 1 ½ hour presentation followed by a seminar discussion of the content guided by the presenter. Those who cannot make Wednesday evenings can still complete the course by participating in secondary sessions conducted at another time during the week. These sessions will be led by a Sequitur presenter, who will begin with a video of the week’s presentation, followed by a seminar discussion. Required reading materials for each week taken from primary and secondary sources will be assigned to participants, and are envisioned to require no more than 2 hours to complete.
Those who complete the Sequitur program in full (attendance at more than 30 of the 34 sessions) and participate in a final interview with a program presenter will receive a program certificate.
