Since 1923 St. Christophers Church has been at the center of Catholic life on Peaks Island’s, bringing hundreds of locals and visitors together for Mass, various prayer services and faith study groups, and a large variety of community building and service events. Sunday Mass continues to be offered year-round in this beautiful mission-style church, where parishioners also gather throughout the week to pray the rosary, reflect on the scriptures, share a cup of coffee or tasty treat, and support and encourage one another.
Believing that actions speak louder than words, St. Christophers welcomes the public to use the parish hall in the rectory building for a variety of activities at no cost. Numerous organizations, including the Peaks Island Historical Society, the American Legion, the Library Book Club, and AA have met regularly in the hall. With the recent addition of a generator, the parish hall is now also able to serve as a warming center and place of refuge during power outages.
The St. Christophers community comes together to plan and carry out numerous positive events to benefit the Island community each year. These include the blessing of the fleet in the spring, the annual parish summer fair, the blessing of animals on the feast of St. Francis in October, and wassailing during the Christmas holidays. Residents and visitors are all welcome to participate in the activities and events sponsored by the parish. In partnership with the Peaks Island Health Center, the parish serves as a storage site for medical equipment loaned to islanders recovering from illness and surgery and also co-sponsors the Peaks Island Food Pantry with the Brackett Church.
